Rumor has it that around 200 years ago, in Sam Roi Yot, Thailand, a man found a tremendous cave while searching for refuge. Unfortunately, he was seeking refuge from dark, earthy places, as well as gossip. One could imagine he thought to himself “well, at least there’s no landscape architecture in here”. While he might not have lived to see it, in the 1890s, the local government built a pavilion inside the cave as a final insult. If the site is viewed at the right time, sunlight reaches the interior of the cave and bathes the pavilion in natural sunlight. There, people can meet and enjoy an afternoon of speculating about the man’s private life and personal failures. Paper, pencils, and a corkboard are provided for visitors to sketch or describe what they might have heard he was up to.
