The perception of pain is scientifically called nociception. This is not to be confused with narcissception, which is the perception of one’s own sexiness. Pain is an important tool that helps humans survive in the world, and teaches us to believe a dentist’s reviews. Though we cannot ask them about it, we know that birds and other mammals experience pain, because they writhe and moan just like we do when we're hurt. Had some of our scientists agreed with this sooner, we could have stopped all of those horrible experiments much sooner. Some people are born with a condition that does not allow them to feel pain, called congenital analgesia. Sufferers of this condition struggle in many ways, but they do handle breakups pretty well.
